Certification in Applied Behaviour Analysis(ABA)

The Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) program is designed to produce proficient, compassionate, committed, and ethical assistant-level practitioners and consultants.

In this certificate program, you will learn how to use ABA to find solutions to difficult or complex behavioural issues. You will learn how to use evidence-based practices to help clients improve what is important to them. You will also learn how to inform your practice by staying current with the most recent research findings.

 Our goal is to create skilled and educated professionals that meet the needs of their communities across the globe by providing high-quality courses. Courses are taught by Board Certified Behaviour Analysts with a diverse range of clinical and research expertise.

Certified Behavioral Technician (CBT)

   The Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) training is a nationally recognized certification program in behavior analysis, designed to prepare individuals for foundational and advanced roles in the delivery of behavior-analytic services. This comprehensive 40-hour course integrates the roles and responsibilities of certified behavior technician, equipping trainees with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their practice.

Program Objectives

The CBT 40-Hour Training Program prepares participants to:

  • Deliver direct behavior-analytic services under the supervision of Certified Behavior Analyst Supervisors (CBA-S) or Certified Behavior Analyst Assistants (CBA-A).
  • Implement behavior intervention plans effectively.
  • Collect and interpret behavioral data to inform interventions.
  • Facilitate and refine behavior-analytic services with an advanced focus on leadership and      assessment techniques.

Curriculum Overview

The program is aligned with the American Autism Council (AAC) task list and covers the following core areas:

1. Fundamentals of Behavior Analysis

  • Introduction to Behavior Analysis: Overview of principles, ethical guidelines, and the significance of behavior analysis.
  • Behavioral Concepts: Reinforcement, punishment, extinction, and generalization.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Techniques for gathering and documenting behavioral data.

2. Applied Techniques

  • Leadership in ABA Services: Developing skills to guide and mentor teams in implementing interventions.
  • Assessment Techniques: Understanding functional assessments and their role in intervention planning.
  • Behavioral Interventions: Advanced strategies for addressing challenging behaviors and promoting skill acquisition.

Training Requirements

To meet the AAC’s standards for the CBT 40-Hour Training, participants must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • The cumulative duration of training must be at least 40 hours.
  • Training must be completed within a 180-day period and no less than a 5-day period.
  • Training must be conducted by a certified American Autism Council Education Provider (AACEP).

Certification Pathway

Upon completing the training, participants will:

  • Be eligible to apply for certification as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in executing behavior-analytic services with increasing responsibility and leadership.

Certified Behavior Analyst-Assistant (CBA-A)

  • Goal: To provide trainees with foundational knowledge and practical skills in Applied      Behavior Analysis (ABA), enabling them to work effectively under supervision.

Curriculum Overview

The program’s structure ensures a comprehensive foundation in ABA principles and practical application. Over the year, trainees will develop the expertise needed to contribute to case management and intervention strategies under professional supervision.

1. Fundamentals of ABA

  • Introduction to ABA: Explore the historical development, foundational principles, and the significance of ABA in behavioral interventions.
  • Core Principles: Delve into key concepts such as reinforcement, punishment, shaping, chaining, extinction, and generalization.
  • Ethical Considerations: Understand and adhere to professional ethical compliance codes to ensure integrity in practice.

2. Behavioral Assessment

  • Understanding Behavior and Its Functions: Learn about the Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence (ABC) framework to analyze and interpret behavior.
  • Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA): Master techniques for data collection, behavioral analysis, and drawing actionable insights to inform interventions.

3. Intervention Strategies

  • Developing Behavior Intervention Plans: Gain skills in setting behavioral goals, implementing intervention strategies, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Teaching and Shaping New Skills: Practice evidence-based techniques such as Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET) to foster learning and skill development.

4. Supervision and Communication

  • Working Under Supervision: Understand the roles and responsibilities of working in a supervised ABA environment.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Build competencies in collaborating with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.

Practical Training

  • Supervised Fieldwork: Complete a minimum of 500 hours of hands-on experience in delivering ABA services, ensuring direct application of theoretical knowledge.
  • Practical Application: Engage in implementing behavior intervention plans, collecting and analyzing data, and refining skills under the guidance of certified supervisors.

Assessment Criteria

  • Written Examination: A comprehensive assessment of theoretical understanding across all modules.
  • Practical Evaluation: An evaluation of the trainee's competency in applying ABA strategies in real-world scenarios.

Certification and Requirements

The program prepares candidates for the nationally recognized Certified Behavior Analyst - Assistant (CBA-A) certification. The demand for CBA-A certified professionals has been growing significantly each year.

To earn the certification, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited program recognized by the council.
  2. Successfully complete the Certified Behavioral Technician (CBT) program.

In its second year, the program expands on foundational ABA knowledge, focusing on advanced concepts, leadership skills, and practical case management to ensure trainees are fully prepared for supervisory roles and complex intervention design.

1. Advanced ABA Concepts

  • Functional Analysis Techniques: Learn to identify and analyze behavior-environment relationships to create effective, targeted interventions.
  • Advanced Behavior Change Systems: Explore complex behavior chains, stimulus equivalence, and self-management strategies to address multifaceted behavior goals.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Build proficiency in interpreting intervention data to inform and modify behavior programs for optimal outcomes.

2. Specialized Interventions

  • Designing Interventions for Complex Behaviors: Develop strategies to address challenging and severe behaviors with evidence-based techniques.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Educational Background 

  • A master’s degree or higher in behavior analysis, psychology, education, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  1. Professional Certification 

  • Must hold an active Certified Behavior Analyst - Assistant (CBA-A) or equivalent certification prior to pursuing the CBA-S.

  1. Completion of Advanced Training 

  • Successfully complete a 1,500-hour advanced training program accredited by the American Autism Council Education Providers (AACEP), including:
  • 500 hours of advanced theoretical training.
  • 1,000 hours of supervised practical fieldwork focused on case management and leadership roles.

  1. Fieldwork Requirements 

  • Fulfill a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised fieldwork, which must include:
  • Experience in supervising assistant case managers or staff.
  • Direct involvement in designing, implementing, and evaluating advanced intervention plans.
  • Leading case management tasks and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

American Autism Council Education Provider (AACEP)

  The American Autism Council Education Provider (AACEP) is a critical designation for professionals delivering advanced ABA training and supervision. To qualify as an AACEP, individuals must meet rigorous standards to ensure the quality and effectiveness of supervision services.

Eligibility Criteria for AACEP Certification

  1. Active CBT-S Certification
    Must hold an active Certified Behavior Technician - Supervisor (CBT-S) credential with no history of disciplinary sanctions.
  2. Experience Requirements
    A minimum of two years of certification as a CBT-S is required to ensure sufficient expertise in supervising and mentoring trainees.
  3. Ongoing Supervision Competence
    Demonstrate continuous professional development by meeting the required Supervision Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
  4. Supervision Training
    Complete a comprehensive 12 hours supervision training program designed to prepare providers for the responsibilities of mentoring and supervising trainees effectively.
  5. History of High-Quality Supervision
    Must have a proven track record of delivering exceptional supervision to trainees, characterized by professional integrity, adherence to ethical guidelines, and a commitment to fostering trainee development.

Responsibilities of an AACEP

  • Provide structured, high-quality supervision to trainees, ensuring they acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in ABA practices.
  • Adhere to all ethical and professional standards established by the American Autism Council (AAC).
  • Maintain a focus on delivering practical and evidence-based training aligned with the AAC task list.
